Easy Laundry Room Makeovers! Key word: Wallpaper!!

Laundry isn’t my most FAVORITE thing to do. And if you agree, lets’s talk about one way to make this annoying task more bearable, m’dear!

A lot of us find laundry to be a mundane task (whenever my husband or I walk past a hamper in the house we yell “Not it!”). And no one wants to do laundry in a hideous space. The solution? A fabulous renovation of your laundry room walls, from drab to fab in a few easy steps.

How on earth was I going to be lured into this laundry room when its not stunning?! The wooden accents paired with that plaid wallpaper and border made the room look crazy dated and dusty. It was time for a fresh start.

TA DA! A few easy changes totally transformed this room from something that looked like an early 90’s dreadful laundry room into a cheerful and whimsical room for productivity (we even used this as a little office for a while!). Do you like how I used PRODUCTIVITY instead of…. the LR word ;)??!! Makes it THAT much more inviting!

After removing the old wallpaper, we painted the walls a cheerful coral with the perfect white designs. We knew that these walls would be a hit, so we turned them into a wallpaper that you can easily hang yourself, available in pre-pasted and peel-and-stick format. And guess what we named it. LAUNDRY!

Next, we installed (and to be very clear, by “we” I mean ME, ha) a simple black Ikea shelf for artwork and a cute black coat hanger (world market), to keep things organized. A couple of floral paintings helps to create a feeling of freshness. On the left, the green of Dinner Party (and the green chair pictured above) works as a compliment to the pink walls. There are so many things you can do to transform a laundry room, especially when you get wallpaper involved. Even if you only have a laundry closet, some wallpaper and artwork make a world of difference. I lived with a basement laundry for 7 years. 7 years of dirty clothes, because you know I NEVER went down there. Funny how that works🙃! Check out this adorable basement laundry make-over. No wallpaper here, but they did add a beautiful pattern via fabric. Looks like CC will have to get into the textile department soon ;).

Little Boy Bedroom

We needed to turn this BORING room into a lively boy’s bedroom! Here is a photo I took when we toured the house.

It was very plain and kind of boring. I knew it had potential. Even with those curtains. This home belonged to grandparents, so this was a room where kiddos only stayed sporadically.

I could have tidied-up before taking the “after” picture. But that would have been a lie, ha! Here is real-life, my dears.

We painted the trim in white, but left the windows in wood to add warmth to the room. Light fixtures can change the feel of a space for very little money. We got him this fun STAR LIGHT FIXTURE to give the room a playful feel. The HOLA sign is from Feather and Birch and can be found HERE. Oh, and we replaced the curtains ;).

We painted three walls in Naval by Sherwin Williams (my most favorite navy ever!) and did an accent wall in gray. I knew this wall needed something more. I wanted to create a space that would grow with him and still be cool years from now. So I whipped up some cool trees. He was thrilled with them and is hoping to have a Bigfoot peeking out from behind one soon. That is on my to-do list ;).

We love his bedroom trees so much that they inspired this Copper Corners wallpaper named TRAILS. We wanted every boy (or girl) to have a modern yet fun room, inspired by nature!

And with everything that I create, I aim for “timeless”. Trails works in a nursery, it works in a teen room, it works in an office. I purposefully created it to be contemporary with versatility in mind. If you are itching to update your space, you can find Trails HERE!

Half Bath Remodel

Ok, here is the 411 on how I transformed our dated half bath into the bathroom everyone wants to use, ha! Also, these are instagram stories pics, so bear with me on the quality ;).

Everything seemed dated. The old oak cabinet, the walls, the light, the faucet, mirror, everything!

To me it is like a challenge. I take an old crabby looking space, change just a few things (usually just colors) and make it cool! The challenge is fixing up a space that most people would think needs to be completely remodeled. Most spaces do not need full remodeling as long as they have good bones. They just need their colors tweaked.

First up was the mirror! I knew that taking a mirror off the wall would be a pain and would probably require drywall repairs, especially once I moved the light fixture. So I took the path of least resistance and just made the mirror better! I wanted height! I called a local mirror/glass shop and had them cut me a mirror the size of the empty space above. I glued it to the wall with heavy duty mirror glue and VOILA, bigger mirror. Since I had that seam where the mirrors met I wanted to camouflage it. I measured the entire mirror and went to Lowes for wood. I cut the wood, sanded it and stained it. (If you do not have a saw, most big hardware stores will cut your wood for you). The top piece is a crown moulding piece to give the mirror more oomph and put a middle piece of wood over the seam the hide it. 

Once the frame was ready I glued it to the mirror with wood glue.

Since we were covering up that back wall, we were able to cut a higher hole in the wall to get the light fixture onto the ceiling, without messing up the ceiling at all. The light fixture is from world market. I am not a fan of bright lights in a bathroom. You know how restaurants and bars have darker lights? Its so you can't see the filth. And everyone looks better. I like that, ha! Not great for online pictures, but great for anyone reapplying lipstick :)

Lord knows I love wainscoting and appreciate fine wood craftsmanship. But, it wasn't in the budget here. So We simply painted the bottom part in white. And it looks great! And was budget friendly :).

I painted the cabinet (sand, kilz, paint, seal with polyacrylic) and the top part of the wall in the same color, Lincoln Cottage by Valspar. I originally painted this color on our fireplace and did not like it because it looked blue. But here it looks just right!

New counters make a huge difference! If you call a local granite installer, they typically have small slabs left over. You might be able to find just the right one like we did for this small space. While we replaced a few things, we kept the major pieces, like the mirror, the faucet, towel ring, cabinet and floor trim. Who knew these old crabby pieces could look so good!? ;)

And you can never forget about the impact of artwork! This piece is a 24x48. I love the height of it because once again, it gives the small space a bigger/taller feel. And everyone knows that artwork in the guest bathroom means you are extremely cultured ;).
